DiscoBowl
Multi-venue booking system
2024 - Entertainment / Booking Product
DiscoBowl operates 20+ bowling venues across the UK, each running its own schedule, capacity and local marketing. We designed the UX and built the booking system - two coordinated sites + reservation platform - that handles cross-venue consistency while letting each venue express local personality.
Tension
Twenty venues, each booking-active 7 days a week. Each venue has its own schedule, pricing tiers, league nights, kid party slots and corporate events. The booking system needs to feel like one DiscoBowl brand but adapt to each venue's reality - without manual override per location.
Decisions
We treated the booking system as a product, not a feature. UX-first: every flow tested against real audience patterns - family weekends, league regulars, corporate events. Architecture: one shared component system feeding two coordinated sites - main brand site for awareness, dedicated reservations site for conversion - with venue-specific data layers underneath.
Approach
Multi-step booking flow that minimizes drop-off: venue selection → date/time → group size → extras → checkout. Every step optimized for mobile (where most leisure bookings happen). Brand consistency through a shared design system across both sites and 20 venue subpages.
"Booking is the moment of truth. Twenty venues, one flow, zero friction.
Outcome
Two coordinated sites + booking system live across 20 UK venues. Brand consistency preserved while each venue retains local personality. Mobile-first booking flow that family customers, league regulars and corporate planners all complete in under 2 minutes.
Reflection
Leisure booking is high-frequency, low-margin per transaction. The system must work flawlessly thousands of times per week or revenue disappears in friction. UX precision becomes operational margin.
